Frequently Asked Questions about our Medical Tour for Veterans
Who is eligible for the "Where Veterans Are VIP" program?
Our services are dedicated to U.S. military veterans entitled to VA benefits, specifically those with service-connected disabilities. During your initial application, our support team will help you verify your status to ensure you qualify for the VIP experience.
Can I actually utilize my VA healthcare benefits abroad?
Yes, you can. Under the Foreign Medical Program (FMP), the VA covers medical costs for service-related conditions outside the United States. Where Veterans Are VIP specializes in navigating this system, making it simple for you to access high-quality care while overseas.
Where exactly does the VIP experience take place?
We are based in the beautiful Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We provide a premier healing environment that pairs American medical standards with a tropical retreat. It is our mission to offer veterans world-class healthcare in a setting that feels like a vacation.
How is this initiative supported and funded?
This program is a collaborative effort supported by the Foreign Medical Program (FMP), Boardwalk Developments, and the Punta Cana Community Care Foundation. These partnerships allow us to provide elite medical tours and resources to the veteran community.
Am I allowed to bring a travel companion?
We encourage you to bring a loved one or a friend to share the experience. Please keep in mind that while we handle the veteran’s logistics, companions are responsible for their own travel costs. Also, kindly notify us in advance so we can ensure the lodging arrangements are ready for both of you.
What are the out-of-pocket costs for this medical tour?
At Where Veterans Are VIP, we take care of your medical consultations and your stay at no cost to you. Your only financial responsibilities include your round-trip flight from the U.S., personal spending money, lunches, and any souvenirs you choose to buy.
Will participating in an overseas tour impact my domestic VA benefits?
Not at all. Seeking treatment through our program in the Dominican Republic has no negative effect on your benefits back home. You maintain full access to all your stateside VA services and ratings just as before.
Is there a limit to how many times I can join a VIP tour?
You are welcome to return as often as necessary for your care, provided we have space in our schedule. We strongly advise speaking with a representative to confirm availability before you finalize any flight arrangements.
How can I secure my Disability Breakdown Letter (DBL)?
You can request your official DBL from the VA through two main channels:
By Phone: Contact the VA at 1-800-827-1000 and ask for the letter to be sent via mail or fax.
In Person: Visit the nearest VA Regional Office to pick up a physical copy of your breakdown.
